Time flies
Aug. 6th, 2007 07:24 pmFor some reason which escapes me now, I had cause to go looking for my old journal on Blogger. I stopped writing in it back in May of 2006, basically because I had found a whole series of communities here on LJ that I liked better, and the whole commenting and friending thing was kinda neat.
I discovered that I'd actually been keeping an on-line blog since 2001. Holy crap, that's a long time! And from that post until I left, I got a grand total of...wait for it.....two responses from other people. Two, in over five years of babbling. You can see why I fell in love with LJ. :c) I don't get comments on every damn post, but I hear enough from both flisters and the general public to know that I'm not shouting into the wind (er...at least most of the time.)
So I've been wondering. There seems to be a spate of people who get these fabulous book offers based soley on their journal scribbling. Where's my shiny new contract? Oh, yeah, I guess there isn't any way to market "shameless passing on of interesting things" and have it sell.
Now and then, I manage to write a little anecdote that I personally think is amusing - it usually centers around my observation of the kids and the bizarre and weird things they say and do. However, as a completely biased mom I can't tell if it's really all that, or I'm deluding myself.
I've always wanted to write, but it's taken me many years to realize that I lack the imagination to write pure fiction. I can't even do fanfic (i.e a pre-made universe) without getting tangled in my own loopholes. But what I *can* do, I think, is write ordinary things in such a way as to make people smile. Anyway, I've been toying with the idea of gathering the "best of" posts in one spot and then asking if people would bemasochistic kind enough to read through and give me honest feedback.
So perhaps once the vacation ends (in two weeks, hooray!) I can spend some time culling the herd, so to speak.
Now, back to playing HP 5 on the Wii. :c)
